Bayer Corp. Pharmaceutical Div.
The history of Bayer's Biological Products Division exemplifies dramatic achievement under pressure. During the intensity of war, Biological Product's research led to discoveries about the value of human proteins in medicine, generating an entirely new way of treating patients who had previously untreatable conditions. Biological Product's research focuses on identifying proteins that occur naturally in the human body and developing these proteins as disease fighting agents. BP's products, whether derived from human plasma, recombinant DNA technology, or gene therapy as they are certain to be in the future are a result of scientific and technological innovation designed to meet urgent, often life threatening, and otherwise unmet medical needs. Bayer Pharmaceutical can look back at a successful year in 2005, in which they reached important milestones the re acquisition of the co promotion rights for Levitra, the establishment of the oncology organization in the United States and the fast launch of Nexavar, the cooperation agreement for their Factor Xa inhibitor and the licensing negotiations for Pritor and alfimeprase, which were completed in early 2006, to name just a few examples. The integration of Pharma and Biological Products into the new Pharmaceuticals Division has laid the foundations to continue with the success also in 2006. At Bayer, individual researchers and scientists are the leaders in the drug discovery and development process. Their expertise and experience lends insight and vision to the research that ultimately turns molecules into medicine.
