For more than 25 years, Centocor has been a leader in the field of biomedicines. Through the dynamic science of biotechnology, they continue to seek innovative ways to treat cancer, infectious diseases, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, and immune-mediated inflammatory disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Their work has revolutionized the science of immunology. They pioneered monoclonalantibody technology, a cutting-edge approach that launched a new generation of products to treat immune related diseases. As profound as these breakthroughs have been, they are just the beginning. Their ultimate goal is to develop cures for immune related diseases.

As the promise of monoclonal antibody technology continued to unfold, the focus of Centocor began to expand. By 1997, they reached their first full year of operating profitability. In 1998, they sold their diagnostic business. Then, in 1999, they became a wholly owned subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson, the worldwide manufacturer and marketer of healthcare products.

Since 1999, Centocor has increased sales from close to $500 million to more than $2 billion, increased investment in R&D from about $75 million to more than $300 million in 2004, purchased a new plant in St. Louis, Missouri, planned a new manufacturing facility in County Cork, Ireland. With a robust pipeline of new products and an aggressive strategy for the future in 2004, they relocated their worldwide headquarters to their current, larger facilities in Horsham, Pennsylvania. Community is vital to Centocor. They take their responsibility to the communities in which they live and work seriously.

Centocor supports philanthropy throughout their global communities with financial support, inkind donations, and employee volunteerism. Their employee volunteers participate as teams and as individuals within their personal communities and in their corporate communities. Their financial giving in the United States is focused on nonprofit organizations with a 501c3 IRS classification. Their efforts are focused on the therapeutic categories they support with biomedicines, their research and development priorities, science education, civic and community activities, arts and culture, and the environment.

They are proud of their employees, their communities, and their nonprofit alliances. They inspire them to reach for higher goals in the realm of corporate social responsibility.
