Connetics Corp.
Connetics was founded in 1993 as a spin-off with development-stage products from Genentech. Early on, Connetics’ focus was on developing products for connective tissue diseases. The company went public in February 1996. Originally founded as Connective Therapeutics, they changed their name to Connetics Corporation in 1997 with the establishment of a sales and marketing organization. In 2001, Connetics made a strategic decision to focus their product development and commercial efforts exclusively on the medical specialty of dermatology.
Their marketed products and product development programs continue to set the standard for innovation, efficacy and patient preference in the dermatology market. Their key strategies for is their 4:2:1 development model, which provides a continuous stream of formulation and clinical programs and potential new products. They believe in delivering innovative and effective treatments to patients and in providing the highest level of customer service to the dermatology community. They integrate quality and integrity into every aspect of their products and business, and they execute their plans and activities in a rigorous and effective manner. Most importantly, their employees, directors and collaborators share a commitment to provide dermatologists with innovative and highly effective products that improve the quality of life of their patients. Connetics employs approximately 394 people, 159 of them in their Palo Alto, California office, 16 employees in their Australian-based company, Connetics Australia Pty Ltd., and 217 U.S. fields based sales employees. Connetics is also developing several dermatology products formulated in novel and proprietary delivery vehicles. The company focuses its research and clinical development programs on acne, steroid responsive dermatoses and other diseases of the skin. The leading products under development include an acne treatment, a topical anti-fungal medication, and a low potency topical steroid medication.
Connetics makes charitable donations to nonprofit organizations supporting dermatologists and their patients through its corporate contributions program. Connetics’ is dedicated to supporting research, education and dermatology professional societies. As part of this commitment, Connetics supports three academic training positions as well as various dermatology organizations. Groups that the Company sponsors include the American Academy of Dermatology, the National Psoriasis Foundation, The Dermatology Foundation, The Skin Disease Education Foundation and The Foundation for Research and Education in Dermatology. Connetics also provides sponsorship to Camp Wonder and Camp Discovery, medically staffed summer camps for children suffering from serious skin diseases.
