Scios Inc.
Through a transaction completed on April 29, 2003, Scios Inc. became a member of the Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies, the world's most comprehensive and broadly based manufacturer of health care products. Scios is no longer a publicly traded company. It is a leader in heart failure treatment and committed to bringing new therapeutics for cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disease and cancer to patients with unmet medical needs.Scios markets a product for the treatment of heart disease, nesiritide, for the treatment of acute decompensate congestive heart failure. In addition, the company has a growing product portfolio in cardiovascular disease, inflammatory disease and cancer.
Scios built an innovative technology platform, fusing classical medicinal chemistry with the most recent advances in disease based gene array, bioinformatics, and computational chemistry. The company continuously interweaves molecular, biological, and chemical technologies throughout the entire drug development process from target discovery and validation, through the invention of robot based high throughput assays, to the discovery and advancement of lead drug candidates.
This approach provides Scios with the ability to process new scientific data in real time and the flexibility to rapidly advance new ideas two qualities that have contributed to Scios’ productivity in research and development. The success of this approach led Scios to discover Natrecor and is fueling discovery of novel therapeutic compounds that are broadening the company’s expertise in important disease areas, such as inflammatory disease and cancer. Interweaving classical molecular chemistry with the most recent advances in disease based gene array, bioinformatics and computational chemistry, Scios has developed a robust drug development pipeline. Scios’ mission is to develop drugs and treatments that change the way chronic and serious diseases are treated.
