Sepracor Inc.
Founded in 1984, Sepracor was originally comprised of several diverse business units. In 1989, they embarked on a strategy of developing single isomers and active metabolites of many of the world's largest selling drugs, with the objective of developing their own proprietary pipeline of pharmaceutical products. Sepracor became a publicly traded corporation in 1991 and subsequently divested its non pharmaceutical business units into four different companies, retaining its core pharmaceutical business. Sepracor Inc. is a research based pharmaceutical company dedicated to treating and preventing human disease by discovering, developing, and commercializing innovative pharmaceutical products that are directed toward serving unmet medical needs. Sepracor's drug development program has yielded a portfolio of pharmaceutical products and candidates with a focus on the treatment of respiratory and central nervous system disorders. Sepracor's commercialization efforts are carried out by its U.S. Based, primary care and specialty oriented sales force, which is comprised of approximately 1,500 sales professionals, as well as through out licensing partnerships. Sepracor currently commercializes three proprietary products namely Lunestatm for the treatment of insomnia; Xopenex Hfatm, Inhalation Aerosol, a hydrofluoroalkane metered dose inhaler as well as Xopenex, Inhalation Solution, both of which are indicated for the treatment or prevention of bronchospasm in patients with reversible obstructive airway disease. Sepracor's out licensing agreements includes Schering Plough for Clarinex, Sanofi Aventis for Allegra; and UCB Pharma for Xyzal Xusaltm.Sepracor submitted a New Drug Application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for arformoterol tartrate inhalation solution, a long-acting beta agonist formulation for long term maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
