Pain is a sensation that, besides being unpleasant, it is transmitted through sensory nerves to the brain. Thus, substances that kill pain work by blocking the ability of the nerves to transmit the sensation of pain and of the brain to receive them. Pain is in some cases a symptom of another condition: inflammation. Inflammation, on the other hand, is a response of the immune system. Heat and cold therapy, traction, acupuncture and electrical stimulation are others of the techniques use to treat pain and inflammation.
